One of Antigua and Barbuda’s best known stars, Tian Winter has worked hard to become one of the popular artistes on the international soca scene. Even from the young age of 10, Tian reported that he received positive feedback on his vocal talents. His influences are evident through different genres, from R&B legends such as R. Kelly and Michael Jackson to soca superstars such as Machel Montano.

Tian’s singing career officially began in the mid 2000’s as both backing and lead vocals with two popular local bands, Da Bhann and Lejah Band. As a band member he performed at a number of hotels, nightclubs, and Carnival shows. However, the solo spotlight called, and he soon began showcasing his solo talents on the local soca scene, grabbing the second runner up position at the 2007 Antigua and Barbuda soca monarch competition with his song “The Best in Me”.

With this performance, he gained the attention of a number of top local and regional soca producers such as Mr. Dwain Antrobus, Mr. Kernal Roberts, and Gavin Christopher and Craig Christopher. From the recording sessions with these producers Tian created a string of soca hits, with his song “Heaven” capturing the first runner up position in the 2008 Antigua and Barbuda Groovy Soca Monarch competition.

In 2009 he continued to hone his craft and again entered the Antigua soca monarch competition. This time, he could not be denied, as he captured both available titles, with his song “Soca Rebels” taking the Jumpy Category and “Baby I” winning the Groovy Category. His hard work continued to pay off even after the local competition, as he also placed first runner up in the road march competition for 2009.

Tian has also proved that he is no one hit wonder: in 2012, he again captured both Jumpy and Groovy titles at the Antigua and Barbuda soca monarch competition with his performances of “Raving” and “Cyah Fail Me”. Since then he has consistently performed well in the soca monarch competition, and his 2014 win for “Cyah Miss It” made it three Groovy titles in a row for the talented entertainer.

Tian also displayed his talents outside of Antigua and Barbuda to rave reviews. Some of his regional and international performances include Soca Frenzy at SCALA in London, BFF in Toronto as well as numerous carnivals such as Atlanta Carnival and New York’s Labour Day Carnival. Tian has also had the honor of collaborating on song with a number of top international soca artistes. These include songs like “Bump and Grind” with Trinidadian soca superstar Patrice Roberts, “On the Road” with Vincentian soca star Teddyson John, and many more.

Tian’s work has received worldwide recognition. He was named by The Root as one of 31 up and coming artistes worldwide. His exceptional performances have led to him being named by the Ministry of Culture as an official cultural ambassador for Antigua and Barbuda, paying tribute to his professionalism and his efforts in promoting Antigua and Barbuda on the international scene.

Tian Winter is currently a fixture on many of the pre-fetes leading up to carnival, and in 2015 he will be featured in a number of shows including Power Rumble (July 17), Red Eye (July 18), and La Playa Privada (July 26). It should be noted that Tian is not a one man show, but is often accompanied by his backing band, iConic, along with his energetic and talented dancers, iCandy. Tian Winter has definitely made himself a force to be reckoned with both on the locally in Antigua and Barbuda and on the international soca arena.
